It's an irony of our education system that it teaches our children to
become successful individuals to lead a comfortable life; whereas it stresses
them throughout the years of learning. It teaches them to pay attention to a
thousand things, basically information of around the world, and makes them
gatherers; when in reality they can at the click of a button get any fact
desired, at any time of day or night. It demands, as a community of educators,
to attend lectures and forgets to pay attention to the worthiness of material
it shares from the dais. It wants
silence of the words in the classrooms but fails to silence the wandering
minds. It makes the every-fresh world so stinkingly stale to eyes that want to
see, almost compelling them to shut and doze off.
Our education many a times has become a kill-joy pedagogy that successfully
butchers a heart that wants to love and a mind that wants to think.
Oh what joy it would be to allow eyes to open up to the wonders of everyday
living and not drown in an ocean of the printed word!
An English mystic, namely Thomas Traherne, has tried to put into words the
fantastic ever-fresh complexion of the world to one whose eyes have been
allowed to be opened : "The dust and stones of the street were as precious
as gold.....The green trees, when I saw them first through one of the gates,
transported and ravished me; their sweetness and unusual beauty made my heart
to leap....Boys and girls tumbling in the street, and playing, were moving
jewels.....Eternity was manifested in the light of the day, and something
infinite behind everything appeared."
If only our educationists were to step out of their classroom seminars on environment and instead take a walk in the gardens, they would perhaps make a new
syllabus.
I am glad I was a student with a teacher like you with such views and even more happier that my daughter too is being nurtured by you!!!!
